1a. Creating your login and password
  • Visit https://associationsciences.org/ASA/Login.aspx
  • Under the heading ‘Join ASA or Register for Meeting Now’ select the option ‘I have an existing account. I’d like to create a username and password now’ and click ‘Proceed’ to access the username/password form.>
  • Enter your account number, e-mail address and last name in the top three blocks. Enter your new username, password and password hint in the remaining spaces. Click ‘Continue’. Your username and password will be saved in our system. You will be able to navigate the membership site and review your profile information.
1b. Change address and/or demographic information
  • Login using the username and password that you have created for the Membership/Meeting Registration site.
  • After entering the site, the My Account menu will be displayed in the left column. Select Manage Addresses or View/Change Profile and follow the directions displayed on each screen.
1c. Demographic information/address use by ASA

Your address will be used by ASA to send you copies of the Journal and other publications and information to which you are entitled through your membership in the Society. Your email address will be used to send you information regarding ASA and its activities. Some correspondence and e-mail messages will be sent on ASA's behalf by AIP Publishing. Your address, the other contact information that you provide, your membership status and your two top fields of interest will be included in the online ASA Membership Directory.

Demographic information, such as your date of birth, highest degree, professional identification will be used by ASA to compile statistics for use by ASA only. Demographic information will not be used in any other way.

2a. Membership Categories and Dues

The membership categories and their costs are as follows:

  • Fellow - $115.00
  • Full Member - $115.00
  • Associate-High -$115.00 (Associates after the fifth-year of membership)
  • Associate - $95.00 (Associates in the first through fifth years of membership)
  • Corresponding Electronic Associate - $45.00 (for members in developing countries)
  • Student - $45.00
  • Emeritus Status - $0.00 (Emeritus members pay a fee to access JASA and other publications)
2b. Journal options. Costs, and delivery methods
  • Members in all categories (except emeritus who must pay a fee for access) receive online access to JASA and other ASA publications.
  • Print Journal published monthly - $35.00 in addition to dues - Fellows, Members, Associates.
  • CD-ROM published bimonthly - $35.00 in addition to dues - Fellows, Members, Associates, Students.
  • Print Journal published monthly plus CD-ROM published bimonthly - $70 in addition to dues - Fellows, Members, Associates.
  • Emeritus members who wish to receive JASA must pay a fee. Online only - $50.00, Print or CD-ROM - $60.00.
  • JASA online is provided to members via username/password at http://asa.scitation.org/. Print journals are sent by surface mail. Members residing outside North, South and Central America have the option to pay additional fees for air freight delivery of the Journal. JASA on CD ROM is mailed to members by first-class or by air mail depending upon their country of residence at no charge in addition to dues.
2c. Online access to JASA and other ASA publications

JASA, JASA Express Letters, Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics and archival publications including Acoustics Research Letters Online, Noise Control magazine, and Sound magazine are hosted online at http://asa.scitation.org//. Access is provided after a member has completed a User Agreement.

Use the username and password that you created for your online journal access.

Acoustics Today magazine can be found online at acousticstoday.org. No password is required to access that site.

2d. Membership Directory access

The ASA online Membership Directory can be found at acousticalsociety.org. Access is by your last name and ASA account number.

2e. Acceptable uses of your membership subscriptions

JASA is provided to individual members at reduced rates for the personal and sole use of the member. If anyone other than the member will use the Journal in any of its formats (online, print, or CD Rom), those persons should join the Society and obtain their own copy of the Journal.

Journals or online access, including JASA in print, CD Rom, or online, may not be used in a university department or in a university library.

Journals or online access intended for library use must be obtained through a nonmember subscription. 3a. Renew membership without any changes

If you wish to pay your dues without making any changes to your membership status or journal receipt option, simply follow the instructions on each screen. You will be asked to review your renewal details before making final payment. A receipt will be issued when you have completed your renewal.

3b. Renew membership with changes to membership categories and/or journal receipt options

Members may change from Student to Associate categories only. All other changes must be handled offline.

The option to change from Student to Associate will be presented on-screen when you renew.

A member who wishes to apply for full Membership should renew his/her membership at the present membership type and apply for election to full Membership by completing and submitting an application to the ASA Headquarters office. Applications for membership can be found at http://acousticalsociety.org/sites/default/files/docs/ASA_application.pdf. Election to full Membership can take as long as eight months.

A member who wishes to apply for transfer to Student membership cannot renew her/his membership online. Please refer to the instructions that accompanied the renewal invoice that you received by postal mail or see the information at http://acousticalsociety.org/sites/default/files/docs/pasappl.pdf.

A member may change journal receipt options during the renewal process. Available options and their costs will be displayed on screen.

Please note that all members will automatically receive JASA online. Other options for receiving JASA are described in section 2b above.

A member who wishes to request a change to emeritus status cannot renew online and must apply in writing to the ASA Headquarters Office. Qualifications for emeritus status are: a) Membership in ASA for 20 years or more; b) age 65 or over; c) employed no more than one-half of normal full-time (20 hours a week).

Members of ASA who already hold emeritus status may renew either online or by postal mail even if no payment is required in order to insure continuity of membership. Emeritus members may change their journal options using the online renewal site.

Emeritus members are exempt from payment of dues and receive Acoustics Today magazine. The fees for Emeritus members who wish to obtain the full contents of JASA are as follows:

  • Online only - $50.00
  • Print journal - $60.00
  • CD-ROM - $60.00

It is possible to make a donation to the Acoustical Society Foundation Fund during the renewal process.

3e. Books, CD, and Standards

ASA books, videos, and CDs listed on the ASA webpage at http://www.abdi-ecommerce10.com/asa may be ordered directly from the ASA distributor online or by phone, fax, some ASA titles can also be purchased on Amazon.comor postal mailing address noted on that webpage. Tables of contents, prefaces and other information can also be found at that website.

ASA members are entitled to 5 free American National Standards annually. See "Free Standards for ASA members" at http://acousticalsociety.org/standards for details.

Receipts can be printed by logging on to the Membership site and selecting Order History from the navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
